  4. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
  5.  
  6. GRAFER(TM) Line Graphs for Windows, v3.0 <ASP>, makes ANSI look-alike 
  7. graphs suitable for scientific and engineering reports. The Line Graphs 
  8. and Scatter Plots are built from X-Y data entered from the keyboard, a 
  9. text file, or the Clipboard. The "Picture" Graphs can be Copied to the 
  10. Clipboard and Pasted into other applications as an adjustable graph. 
  11. Saved graphs are in text file format and easily edited. Printed graphs 
  12. are adjustable in size. Learn to graph with the samples included.

  15. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  16.  
  17. Grafer requires, as a minimum, an IBM AT or compatible computer with 
  18. Windows 3.1, Windows 3.11, or Windows '95 installed and running. The 
  19. current memory in your computer should be adequate if you are able to 
  20. use other Windows applications satisfactorily. The hard disk space 
  21. needed is less than 300 kilobytes. Grafer will not run with Windows
  22. 3.0.

  25. GRAFER(TM) INSTALLATION
  26.  
  27. You will probably receive Grafer in one of two ways. In the first way, 
  28. you will have a floppy disk with the ten individual files listed below:
  29.  
  30.       GRAFER.EXE    - Grafer executable for Windows 3.1 or greater
  31.       GRAFER.HLP    - Grafer help for Windows 3.1 or greater
  32.       REGISTER.TXT  - Registration form for Users
  33.       README.TXT    - Getting Started Documentation
  34.       GRAFTEST.GRF  - A test graph as described in a Help item
  35.       ELECT.GRF     - A graph of residential power consumption
  36.  
  37.       INSTALL.EXE   - Installation Program for Grafer
  38.       VENDINFO.DIZ  - Grafer Product Information
  39.       VENDOR.TXT    - (use VENDINFO.DIZ for all information)
  40.       FILE_ID.DIZ   - BBS description of Grafer

  42. If you have a disk with the ten files, use the instructions given in the 
  43. section below titled, "USING THE INSTALL PROGRAM".
  44.  
  45. The second way to receive Grafer is in a compressed file or archive. The 
  46. compressed file name should be GRAFER3.xxx where "xxx" indicates which 
  47. file compression utility was used. In this case, use the suggestions 
  48. given in the section titled, "INSTALL FROM A COMPRESSED FILE".
  49.  
  50. If you prefer to install Grafer manually, copy the first six files 
  51. listed above to the directory of your choice. Using Windows 3.1 or 3.11,  
  52. create icons for the first four files and install them in the Windows 
  53. Group of your choice by using the Program Manager "File" menu and 
  54. selecting "New...".

  56. Using Windows95 or later, create a "Start" menu item by adding a folder 
  57. called "Grafer" in Windows\Start Menu\Progams\ folder. Now, add four 
  58. "shortcuts" to the "Grafer" folder for the first four files you copied to
  59. the directory of your choice above.

  62. USING THE INSTALL PROGRAM
  63.  
  64. To install Grafer, start up Windows and put the Grafer floppy disk in 
  65. Drive A. Follow the directions in the sections below depending on which 
  66. version of Windows you are using:
  67.  
  68. Windows 3.1 or 3.11
  69.  
  70. From the Program Manager "File" menu, select "Run". Type "A:INSTALL" in 
  71. the dialog box that appears. After you press "ENTER" or click on the 
  72. "OK" button, the Install program will start on the floppy drive. If you 
  73. are installing from B drive, substitute the letter B for the letter A 
  74. above.

  78. From the "Start" menu select "Run". Type "A:INSTALL" in the dialog box 
  79. that appears. After you press "ENTER" or click on the "OK" button, the 
  80. Install program will start on the floppy drive. If you are installing 
  81. from B drive, substitute the letter B for the letter A above.

  83. The Install program will copy the Grafer files to a new directory titled 
  84. "GRAFER" on your hard drive (C:). You will have an opportunity to revise 
  85. the directory name and installation location. Click on the "OK" button 
  86. or press the "ENTER" key to start the file transfer to the directory you 
  87. selected.

  89. Using Windows 3.1 or 3.11, the Install program will also create a 
  90. Windows Group named "Grafer" and put the Grafer icons in that group. You 
  91. may move the Grafer icons to another group later if desired.

  93. Using Windows95 or later, a menu item titled, "Grafer" will be added to 
  94. the "Start Menu" with "shortcuts" for four of the files listed above.

  97. INSTALL FROM A COMPRESSED FILE
  98.  
  99. If you received Grafer as a single file such as GRAFER3.ZIP, copy this 
  100. file to a temporary directory on your hard disk. Next, decompress the 
  101. file using a decompression utility program. The DOS command might be 
  102. PKUNZIP GRAFER3.ZIP if that compression utility was used to compress the 
  103. file. Several other compression/decompression utilities are in common 
  104. use. You can probably obtain the correct utility from the same place you 
  105. obtained the Grafer archive.
  106.  
  107. If the Grafer archive file name is GRAFER3.EXE, you decompress it by 
  108. running it from your temporary directory as you would any DOS program. 
  109. No other utilities are needed.
  110.  
  111. Once the archive file is decompressed, you should have the ten files 
  112. listed above in your temporary directory. Now you can install Grafer as 
  113. described above in the section titled, "USING THE INSTALL PROGRAM". 
  114. Instead of typing "A:INSTALL" in the "Run" dialog box, you would type, 
  115. "C:\TMP\INSTALL", where C:\TMP is the current hard drive and directory 
  116. where the ten files are located.

  119. UNINSTALL GRAFER

  123. First delete each icon in the Grafer Group by selecting it and then 
  124. pressing the 'Delete' key. When all the icons are gone, delete the Group 
  125. by pressing the 'Delete' key.
  126.  
  127. Next, from the File Manager, delete the directory containing the Money 
  128. Math files. First, select the directory and then delete it by pressing 
  129. the 'Delete' key. Grafer places a file named, "grafer.ini" in the 
  130. Windows directory of your computer. You may also delete this file.

  134. Using Explorer, delete the directory containing the Grafer files. First, 
  135. select the directory and then delete it by pressing the 'Delete' key. 
  136. Grafer places a file named, "grafer.ini" in the Windows directory of 
  137. your computer. You may also delete this file.

  139. To remove the, "Grafer" item from the, "Start" menu, move to the, 
  140. Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ folder using Explorer. Expand the folder by 
  141. clicking on the "+". Now, click on the, "Grafer" folder and press the 
  142. delete key.

  145. RUNNING GRAFER
  146.  
  147. To start Grafer, double-click the mouse on the Grafer icon for Windows 
  148. 3.1 or 3.11. For Windows95, from the "Start" menu, select "Programs". 
  149. Now select "Grafer" from the menu and again select "Grafer" from the 
  150. menu.

  152. Selecting "Exit" from the "File" menu item closes Grafer. You can also 
  153. use the Alt+F4 key combination to do the same thing.

  156. GRAFER DOCUMENTATION
  157.  
  158. All of the Grafer features are documented in Grafer Help. You can select 
  159. the "Help" menu item from within Grafer or you can double click on the 
  160. "Grafer Help" icon. Either way, the Windows Help program will run Grafer 
  161. Help.

  164. Grafer, how to make a graphs, and other helpful Grafer tips.

  167. PRINTING THIS FILE

  169. To print this file from Windows, first load it into the Notepad editor 
  170. that comes with Windows by double-clicking on the "Documentation" icon. 
  171. Next, click on the "File" menu item and then select the "Print" command. 
  172. You may want to select the "Print Setup.." command first to make sure 
  173. that your printer is ready and properly setup.
